It’s heartbreaking to read the daily newspaper nowadays, ’cause it seems to be filled with stories of teens committing suicide. Suicide seems to be a rather common “trend”, if that’s what I can call it, among teens in today’s world. They have their own reasons for it, but honestly, I don’t see it as a SOLUTION to anything. Let’s look it at some of the main causes of suicide among teens today.
DEPRESSION. Yes, a lot of teens suffer from depression daily, and they feel like they have absolutely no one to comfort them. Even though they are surrounded by a crowd of people, they feel rather lonely, ’cause they sometimes do not getting along well enough with those people, and hence feel left out. In such a situation, the person could mix around with people they are comfortable with, and not care about what others think of them. I think each of us has the right to do whatever we like, whatever brings us happiness, and our opinions differ from the others, but there’s nothing wrong with that. A lot of people get picked on and BULLIED, because of the friends they make, or because of their character. So what if they’re not like the rest? They shouldn’t be picked on and made fun of because of the choices they make, or the way they dress, or the fact that they’re “nerdy” or “geeky” or “uncool”, that seems rather unfair. These very people begin to feel a sense of insecurity, and they carry this hurt with them, and they let it define them, until it reaches a point where they cannot take it anymore, and SOMEHOW, think ending their life is the best idea.
BAD GRADES. This is another common cause of suicide. People do not fare as they expected, or as their parents expected, and think of themselves as a “failure”, and resort to killing themselves.
I don’t know if it’s just me who thinks this all is rather silly. I mean, yes, I agree all of this is a real burden to the concerned people and they feel low, and think ending their lives is the best idea then, because things just don’t seem to be falling in place for them. But the way I see it, ending your life is cowardly behaviour. Life is challenging, and we’re supposed to face the challenges, and not run AWAY from them. God gave us the gift of life because He thought we were capable enough for it, and ONLY HE has the right to take it away from us. He knows what we are capable of, and He ensures we are given challenges that we can face. This post is supposed to help those struggling with their lives right now, and are contemplating suicide. Maybe you should give it another thought. It’s just a bad PHASE right now, not a bad LIFE. And, eventually, things WILL be alright, it will all get better in a while, you just have to hang in there and look for that ray of light in this tunnel of darkness.
